Empowering Disadvantaged Girls Through Education (EDGE)
Break Barriers. Build Leaders. Change
Liberia’s Future.
Across
Liberia, too many girls are forced out of school by poverty, early marriage,
gender-based violence, and the hidden costs of education. UNICEF reports that
only 39% of girls complete lower secondary school, and a 2025 FREE Liberia
study confirmed that financial barriers and GBV are the biggest threats to
girls’ education and future.
EDGE,
a flagship program of the Foundation for Research, Education & Empowerment
(FREE Liberia), is breaking this cycle. We ensure girls in poverty, slums, and
underserved communities not only enter school—but stay, thrive, and lead.
Through academic support, essential learning resources, mentorship, hygiene
kits, and training for teachers and caregivers, we empower girls to overcome
barriers, build confidence, and reach their full potential.
Why
EDGE Matters: Education breaks poverty cycles, prevents
exploitation, builds leaders, and transforms Liberia’s future by equipping
girls to become changemakers in their families, communities, and nation.
